Temporal spectral evolution of time-frequency activity in brain regions

Time-frequency diagram of the activity in 11 brain regions in an error-related negativity experiment. The single-trial EEG data was transformed into brain source space using a source montage. Each graph represents the temporal spectral evolution (TSE) of one modeled brain region, i.e. its power change at a certain frequency relative to the baseline.

A reduction of alpha activity is observed following the stimulus. Beta activity is reduced around the motor resonse (time zero, red vertical line) in the left and right motor cortex (MCL and MCR) and followed by a beta rebound. In addition, gamma activity is induced around the time of the motor response, with maximum signal in the cerebellum. Low frequency power increase is a correlate of the transient evoked signals in the different brain regions.
